We Are Like Swiss Cheese

Sometimes I find myself thinking about how different my life would have been if I had not said YES to Jesus. Whenever this thought comes to my head, I fall to my knees and thank God for being such a sweet pursuer. He pursued me until he got my heart; my whole heart.

But while thanking God, he actually made me realize that all the times I kept running from him, I was only hurting myself and no one else. You know, we are all born with voids in our lives that only Jesus can fill. How wonderful yet frightening is that? Yes, you, me, everyone. We have voids that were specifically placed in our lives that ONLY Jesus can fill. So while we try to fill those voids with every other thing but Jesus, we only find ourselves coming short. Nothing and No one can take the place of God in our lives.

How befitting is it that while all of this was going on in my head, I opened my bible to spend time with God and came across this excerpt by Nicole Johnson

"What we don't have shapes us more than what we have. We are like Swiss cheese and the holes in us are actually supposed to be there.
The holes are the things that make us who we are. The holes are the places God has reserved in us for himself!  The longings identify our real hunger. A hunger that drives us to him to be satisfied. If … big if … we listen
…There are [holes] in my life that I cannot get filled outside of God. I can do some temporary filling, but not the kind my should craves. The longing to be filled, the longing to be known, and the longing for heaven all draw me to him with an intense pull that began the day he made me."

The comparison to swiss cheese is quite an interesting one but it makes the picture so clear. (so next time you are having swiss cheese, think of how much you need Jesus). LOL!!!
But in all seriousness, we often think, If only I had this, or if only things were like this, or if only…(fill it up with whatever you desire), that life would be better. No doubt, that new job that pays well might give you a better-life, getting drunk might help you forget your problems for some time, if you get in a relationship you might feel loved but all those things are temporary and uncertain. The only person that can truly fill the voids in our lives is Jesus. So forget those things you wish you had and thank God for where you are today and ask Jesus to come in and fill those voids you have in your life. One thing for sure is that he will not only fill the voids but it will be permanent. In him you will find the joy, peace and comfort that your soul desires.

“Now may the God of peace [Who is the Author and the Giver of peace], Who brought again from among the dead our Lord Jesus, t hat great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood [that sealed, ratified] the everlasting agreement (covenant, testament), strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (the Messiah); to Whom be the glory forever and ever (to the ages of the ages). Amen (so be it).” ~ Hebrews 13:20-21(AMP)

Beautiful piece by my friend, Oddie Moghalu
